Made in Abyss Dōjinshi Gets Praised by Manga's Creator

Manga artists and other media creators have mixed feelings about the dōjin (fan-made material) based on their works, although with the prominence of dōjin conventions like Comiket it's hard to ignore. Akihito Tsukushi, the artist behind Made in Abyss, gave a glowing review to one dōjinshi covering his manga.

"Made in Abyss no Doshigatai Hon" ("The Hopeless Book of Made in Abyss") by the dōjin circle Noranora is a comprehensive guidebook to Tsukushi's manga, covering all aspects of the Made in Abyss world: writing, characters, flutes, relics, tools, creatures, plants, foods, the Incinerator, stores, and 3-D modeling. In a series of tweets, Tsukushi called the book "too helpful. For me" and praised the CG Reimeikyō (a character) on the back cover as "fun" and "fully armed like a fully powered-up player character in a shooting game." He appreciated its durability because he "plans to use it a lot."

He also appreciated these charts of characters and which chapters/books they appear in, and even added a few extras himself ("Guild Member" and "Storyteller").

A member of Noranora tweeted "I'm shaking with emotion" at the kind review.

Made in Abyss is the tale of an orphan girl, Rico, and her explorations of a massive cave system called the Abyss with a robot boy. It is being adapted into a TV anime directed by Masayuki Kojima (Monster, Tibetan Dog, The Piano Forest).

OKAYADO, the artist behind Monster Musume, also enjoys dōjinshi of his own manga, as evidenced by his trip to Comiket to buy some in winter 2015.
