California Gets Official Hakuoki Festival, Cafe in April

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Idea Factory International opened a Facebook event page on Friday for an official Hakuōki-themed festival and cafe. The event will be held in Torrance, California on April 30. The festival and cafe will celebrate the upcoming release of the Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds game for the PlayStation Vita.

A US$15 general admission ticket will grant visitors access to giveaways, photo opportunities, and new merchandise. The event is also offering special lunch tickets for US$35 that include general admission, a Hakuōki-themed lunch, and extra giveaway items. Only 60 lunch tickets will be available.

Idea Factory International encourages visitors to cosplay and bring itabags to show of their otome pride.

The event will be held in the Assembly Room of the Torrance Cultural Arts Center from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST. Tickets will go on sale on February 1 at 12:00 p.m. PST.

Idea Factory International began streaming a trailer for Hakuōki: Kyoto Winds in November.

The game shipped in Japan in September 2015. The remake received a sequel titled Hakuōki Shinkai: Hana no Shō on June 16 in Japan. The game tackles different parts of the first game's story.

The game remakes the original Hakuōki Shinsengumi Kitan 2008 PlayStation 2 game. The game has since been ported into the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS platforms. Aksys Games localized and released Hakuōki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom for the PSP in February 2012, Hakuōki: Memories of the Shinsengumi for the Nintendo 3DS in September 2013, and Hakuōki: Stories of the Shinsengumi for the PS3 in May 2014.

The story of the game and its anime adaptation center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century.
