The Neon Genesis Evangelion bullet train has shuttled passengers on the JR-West line from the Shin-Osaka Station to Hakata Station for over a year, giving fans a chance to drink Misato's wine, hear announcements by Kaworu, and with the right ticket, take a sit in an Evangelion cockpit.

The cockpit is part of a diorama boarding experience limited to passengers that book ahead.

In April, train is changing stations to Hakata Sōgōsharyōsho, the base for JR West bullet trains located about 9km (5.5mi) north of Hakata Station. Riders will be able to get off at the base and take a tour of the trains. A number of tour plans are available including overnight stays in Hakata. The two tours are limited to 70 and 30 people each and range in price from 31,800 yen (US$281) to 42,800 yen (US$378) per adult.

Planning for the Evangelion bullet train were announced in 2015 and the train began service that November. JR-West has extended its service to spring 2018.
