Haruhi's SOS Brigade Reunites for Surprise Performance at Animelo Summer Live Concert
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
This year's Animelo Summer Live 2017 -THE CARD- concert event had three surprise guests at its first day of anime music revelry on Friday. Voice actresses Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, and Yuko Goto reunited once again as the SOS Brigade from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya to perform the anime's ending theme song "Hare Hare Yukai." Of course, they also performed the corresponding dance on stage.
This was the first appearance of the SOS Brigade in 11 years.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya remains in fans' memory, in part because the official website is updated every year with the character's "disappearance" sometimes followed by new anime announcements. The series is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary. Announcements included "Suzumiya Haruhi no Taisei" ("The Completion of Haruhi Suzumiya"), a Blu-Ray boxset of the TV series, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (a film sequel), The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya, Nyorōn Churuya-san (two web short series), and footage of Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekisō ("The Extravaganza of Haruhi Suzumiya"), a voice actor concert from 2007. It went on sale in Japan on December 18, the disappearance date, for 29,160 yen (tax included; $263).
Animelo Summer Live 2017 will continue with more performances throughout the weekend.
