Cup Noodle Miso Sells Out After Kizuna Ai Campaign

Virtual YouTube personality and idol Kizuna Ai's latest campaign with Cup Noodle looks to be a success as the company's Miso flavored cups are disappearing from stores across Japan. Nissin Foods announced on April 11 that it can't keep up with the demand and is temporarily suspending sales of Cup Noodle Miso.
The new flavor launched on April 1 after Nissin previously tested out Cup Noodle Miso Mini last year. The mini version was a hit leading the company to introduce it in full-size cups. Kizuna Ai was the face of the launch and appeared in a commercial on April 1.
Nissin Foods credited the suspension to an increase in product demand that started in March. The company noted that sales of the Miso flavor far exceeded initial expectations and it is currently not feasible to secure enough product for the entire Cup Noodle brand.

Nissin Foods was also planning a commemorative Cup Noodle package release on May 1 to welcome in the Reiwa Era. The special package would have included Curry, Seafood, and Regular flavor Cup Noodle cups, but both Curry and Seafood flavors were cancelled and only the regular flavor will be included.
Nissin plans to resume sales of the Miso flavor as soon as it can establish a sufficient supply to meet the demand.
Miso wasn't the only flavor Kizuna Ai was promoting this month. The character appeared in a promotional image in three different colors. Each version of Ai was holding a different Cup Noodle flavor: Smoky & Spicy Sio, Miso, and Curry Cheese.
