World's First Doraemon Store Opens in Tokyo
posted on by Kim Morrissy
The world's first Doraemon store, called the "Doraemon Mirai Department Store" (Doraemon Future Department Store), opened in the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba on Sunday.
The store is divided into three areas: a shop area that sells original goods, a play area called the "secret gadget lab" where children can amuse themselves with toys based on iconic gadgets such as the Dokodemo (Anywhere) Door and the Take-copter, and a customize zone where visitors can create their own gadgets.
Additionally, the store operates its own postbox that visitors can use to post the postcards and stamps purchased exclusively at the store. The "future post service" will deliver the postcard at any specified date within the next 12 months.
Fujiko F. Fujio's original manga debuted in the January 1970 issues of Shogakukan's Yoiko, Yōchien, Shōgaku Ichinensei, Shōgaku Ninensei, Shōgaku Sannensei, and Shōgaku Yonensei children's learning magazines in December 1969. The franchise has inspired numerous television anime, films, and specials. The 2020 Doraemon film, Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Shin Kyōryū (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's New Dinosaur), will open on March 6, 2020.
