Bandai Namco Entertainment and video game company Drecom announced on Thursday that they have established a new company called BXD that will develop a gaming platform distribution service to release HTML5-based online games.
The company will launch its service in spring 2018 with new games for the Dragon Ball Z, Famista, and The IDOLM@STER franchises. The browser games will be for smartphone use.
The new service will be at its core free to play, but parts of the service will have charges.
BXD stands for "Breakthrough X Digital Life." Kōji Tezuka, who is currently the second production general manager of Bandai Namco Entertainment's NE division, will serve as the head of BXD. The company's new service also plans to distribute third-party titles. BXD will itself officially launch on August 3 with a capital stock of 247.5 million yen (about US$2,214,000).
Disclosure: Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., is a non-controlling, minority shareholder in Anime News Network Inc.
