Yukiko Asano's Hannari Girori no Yoriko-san (Yoriko of the Elegant Glare) manga is inspiring a four-episode live-action television series starting this April on Kansai TV.
The original manga follows Yoriko Shindō, a 29-year-old Kyoto cigarette store employee who has a sharp look in her eyes but is actually a kind-hearted person. She meets Yūichi Yamada, a 26-year-old magazine editor who transfers to Kyoto, and their love story begins.
AKB48's Yui Yokoyama (pictured right in image above), a native of Kyoto, will play Yuriko while Masaki Nakao (pictured left in image above) will play Yūichi. Many of the staff are returning from the Yokoyama Yui (AKB48) ga Hannari Meguru: Kyoto Irodori Nikki (Yui Yokoyama's Elegant Wandering: Assorted Kyoto Diaries) program, which has been running since 2013.
Asano launched the manga on Tokuma Shoten's Web Zenon manga website in May 2015. Tokuma Shoten published the fourth compiled volume in October.
