This is what happens when there is no real competition in a market, they can set the price as high as they like.

I’m not saying there is nothing else but the other stuff is only doing it because they can not to compete in the market

I will not be surprised to hear of another increase by the end of the year.

The lowest paid tier is the Fan Tier (which is what both Blood- and I are talking about), and no, it doesn't have commercials. You just don't get access to extras like manga.

They gutted their Manga section a while back, especially when KManga and MangaUp! took off, as most series moved over there.

The manga was available to all premium members, but that was also removed several months ago after years of almost nothing happening aside from Kodansha simulpubs pre-K MANGA. Now the main extras are offline watching and mobile games.

My grandfathered Got Anime! 10% discount is still around for now.

I expect my Got Anime discount will end whenever it was going to expire before, but I don't recall when that is.

I hadn't seen anything about the increase for free shipping, though maybe I was looking before that happened. $75 is what it was for Right Stuf, although years ago it was $49, so that was a nice discount. I suppose it going up to $75 isn't too surprising since Right Stuf handles the fulfillment now.

It's not necessarily competition, considering what the option was before. Right now, we have CR, HiDive, Netflix, and D+. If you want to watch all those shows, that is already 4 service right there (and in the past, things like Anime Strike on Prime, and there's still Retro Crush with their own service). So, it's already spread between a few different services. It's like saying "Netflix doesn't have competition", and there is clearly a TON of competing service, all of which are RAISING their prices, because companies right now need to show good financials to their shareholders, and raising prices is the best way to do it.

Many things right now are becoming worse value for customers (and many employees...) and all the better for those who are executives and own stocks. It's not just in streaming either, as most things now continue to have poor quality, and yet ask for higher prices. "Inflation" and "COVID" can be used by companies to deflect this for only so long. Unless there's more regulations, it's just how things will continue, especially in pretty much any subscription-based service.

Thanks to regional pricing! I only pay the equivalent of ~$2 a month for the Fan tier.

If they added everything or almost everything from Funimation plus the different versions, I probably wouldn't care about this too much even if it would still suck. But, that's not the case.

At least the increase was only by a dollar or two, and that Fan tiers remained unchanged.

The Crunchyroll monopoly sucks but virtually every streaming app is raising their prices from Netflix to Disney+. It's more impressive to me that Crunchyroll hadn't already raised their prices.

I'm more surprised that they didn't raise the base tier price than I am that they raised prices.

Of course they did. After updating their app without noticing and killing the ability for me to watch it on my tablet. *sigh*

CR has been cutting services and experimenting with AI subs so prices might stay low but quality goes down

As someone who had to change my plan sometime last year, they don’t offer annual subscriptions anymore in the US, only monthly. If you’re still on one, it seems like you can stay there but if you have to make any changes, expect to be forced to monthly.

You can get an annual Fan for $80 in the CR store here.
Alternatively, Walmart still sells Mega Fan annual gift cards for $100. You can order one here.

Hey thanks for that info! You'd think that their customer service should be pointing people to those options, but they didn't. They just told me I was out of luck and had to go monthly.

I just noticed that the price increased from $99.99 to $119.99 in the last day or two, for the digital gift card. You might still be able to find one for $100 if you go into your local Walmart and get a physical gift card.

That free shipping is US-only though, right? Since the price increase applies to multiple countries, maybe that should be specified in the article too.
